Flywheel Oil Seal Leaking
Not sure how long this has been going on but it does not seem normal at least not to me.
Flywheel oil seal leaking. Since the flywheel side of the engine is encased by the gearbox bell housing a leaking flywheel oil seal will either cause clutch slippage if you are driving a manual or contaminate your atf fluid if you are driving an auto. Fuel pump blanking plate are all dry. The oil stop leak is a universal application and would treat leaking oil pan gaskets valve cover seals rear main seal etc. Is it easier to remove the engine to get to the flywheel to fix the oil leak or lower the 5mt tranny to get to the oil leak.
No oil was leaking from the rear main seal so it must be holding the oil behind it. Flywheel oil seal leak read 6015 times stewrat. It did not look like any oil had leaked out on the back side of the flywheel or the front. As it gets worse i have simply added oil as required however it is becoming a pita this questions would be the same asked if i had to replace the clutch.
If the flywheel oil seal is my best bet how much would a rough ball park figure be for a garage to replace the seal. I can do either i am just looking for the path of least resistance. A new input shaft seal was installed when the transmission was rebuilt. Whereas the rear main sealer is specifically formulated for the rear main seal.
Most engines have an inspection cover in the bellhousing the allow you to check for this. The oil switch filter sump plug camshaft cover. One of the more important maintenance items to watch with generator sets is the engine s rear crankshaft seal. If the rear main seal is leaking on your engine it will drip oil onto the flexplate or flywheel and sling oil around the bellhousing.
If oil is found on the flywheel and can be seen leaking from the rear crankshaft seal then valeo advises addressing the leak immediately and replacing the seal if required. Engine oil will leak out of the seal. A quick inspection of the air discharge end of the generator can tell if there is a build up of oil and dust. I don t fancy the job myself thanks in advance.
When the seal fails engine oil leaks into the flywheel housing between the generator windings and the engine.
